BDE Courses
Q: Can I start the BDE course without my G1?
Yes, you can start the online course without your G1, and begin the in-car training once you obtain it. Please note that the Ministry of Transportation requires that courses be completed within one year in order to be eligible for certification. You must ensure you give yourself enough time to obtain the G1 and complete 10 hours of in-car training.
Q: Can I get a discount on my insurance with the certificate?
All students who earn their BDE certification may be eligible for their insurance discount. The Driver’s License History (DLH) provides proof of successful completion of and graduation from a Beginner Driver’s Education (BDE) course.
Q: When will I get my certificate?
Your certification will be processed once the 30 hours online and 10 hours of in-vehicle training are complete. These are the Ministry requirements for certification eligibility. After you complete the BDE course, we will certify you at MTO system and notify by the email you provided when you registered.
Q: Do I have to do 10 hours in vehicle for the BDE packages?
As required by the Ministry of Transportation, a minimum of 10 hours are to be completed for certification eligibility. Your in-car instructor will advise you if extra practice is needed. The more you drive, the more confident you will be in yourself when it comes to your road test.
Q: Do I have to finish my online course before I start my in-car training?
Online course completion is not a requirement for beginning your in-car training. We allow our students to do both course components at the same time to allow for faster course completion. You may begin your in-car lessons before or after completing the online course.
Q: When are the online classes?
Online classes are 24/7, no schedule is required.
Q: How fast can I complete the online lessons?
The online course will allow you to complete up to 5 hours a day, so this course can be completed within one week.
Other Questions
Q: Is TestDrive Driving School a certified school?
Yes, TestDrive Driving School is fully certified by the Ontario ministry of transportation. We provide the ministry approved BDE course as well. You can find us listed as an approved driving school listed on the Ministry of Transportation website.
Q: How can I book a road-test?
You can visit www.drivetest.ca/ or call 1-888-570-6110 to book a test yourself. We can also book your road-test for you for a charge of $25.00.
Q: How soon can I go for my G2 road test?
If you take our Ministry approved course, you will be eligible for your G2 road test 8 months after the issue date of your G1. In other words, earning your Beginner Driver Education certificate will reduce the waiting period by four months.
Q: Would I be able to use my instructor's car for the road test?
Yes, you can use your instructors car for an additional cost. We strongly recommend opting to use your instructor’s vehicle for the road test as students will feel most comfortable driving the car that they have learned in. Additionally, the school roof sign on top of the car will alert other drivers on the road that the student is a beginner.
